Professional Photographer (and OCC guest!) shows off the Netarts-Oceanside Area

PHOTOS BY VELEDA -
Amazing and wonderful photos shared by OCC's recent guest, and consummate professional photographer - VELEDA. Thank you so much Veleda for sharing these! That infrared camera is really something in your hands!
And, oh - if anyone is wondering - the music is Rostropovich playing Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme with the Berlin Philharmonic

oooo, ohhhhh my, new chairs at OCC! That is always a thrill, isn't it now?

1.  For the kitchen, 7 (that's right, seven) gorgeous new black counter height stools.
They are heavier and much better built than they need to be, but hey - we are only expecting them to last 155 years or so...

2. Lounge chairs - new in August 2008. These beautiful Tropitone chairs more or less match the existing table, chairs and foot rests that have been on the back deck, near the grill, since 2007. They are just the ticket when you're looking to relax and kick back.

3. And, here is another Tropitone special chair we will soon be bringing from our home to make the 3rd floor deck even more wonderful - if you believe that possible...so go ahead and open that special bottle of wine and enjoy the amazing view of the bay and ocean from the 3rd floor belvedere deck...you will always remember it...just as our family does!

Oh, and the hat..."Pacific Wonderland" that is what it is, no? You can buy it on our website. It benefits the local watershed and it looks real cool...

Cheers and happy new year.

In December 2007, 2 big storms came through and took down trees...

Fortunately, no one was hurt and no major damage was done...

Landscaping the front yard - finally!

After finishing the addition to the Cabin in 2004, we were left with the same old same old front yard - gravel & weeds. It has been a long time coming, but finally, with the kind help from Honeysuckle Landscape in Oceanside, we are not only getting a front yard, but also a garden. The work includes some lovely stone walls with one rounded along the front deck creating a raised bed. There is another raised bed made from both stone and old fallen logs in front. The plantings in the beds and between include:
  • more wild huckleberries
  • herbs
  • wild strawberries for some ground cover
  • greens
  • nasturcium (a native edible flower)
All are native plants and don't require much tending. If you're going to be visiting, please help yourself to some of the edibles, but be sure to leave enough for the next person too!

New Lighting over the kitchen table!

During our visit to the Cabin in August, we brought along 2 forest-green lighting fixtures and installed them over the kitchen table. These are a GREAT improvement from the track lighting we originally had installed back in the early 1990s. We got them from "Urban Ore", a wonderful oasis of used building materials in Berkeley, CA near our home. They are matched, as you can see, and direct the CF lighting downward without the glare.

Here's what they look like - if you are visiting soon, enjoy them! We are thrilled with the new look:
